BECOME YOUR OWN INNER SHAMAN

We have all the wisdom teachings in the world available to us at any time. Mother Nature provides not only food and a natural pharmacy, but materials for shelter, an adventure playground, and her spiritual council too.  Many clients ask me “Where did you get your shamanic training. Who was your teacher?” My answer, “From the greatest teacher and shaman of all time.” “Oh yes, who is that?” they await in eagerness and and abated breath.  “Why from Mother Earth direct. Where else did the original shamans of the world learnt it it from, but from the natural world around them?”

Shamanism is said to have been born in the place of Siberia more than 10,000 years ago, but in my book, since man has had a relationship with Mother Earth, is when it all began.  Earth as a Grand Shamaness herself, shows us how to live according to the Law of the Land.  To live in right relationship and harmony with what I call  the ‘Agents of Power’- the elements we know as Earth, Water, Fire and Air:

~ The EARTH beneath our feet helps us drop down from our head that is in constant thoughts to regain our footing and ground our energy. To  feel something stable and sure under out feet in the constant flux and change of our world around us.

~WATER teaches us how to let go and flow along the meandering path of life, to soften and smooth out the hard edges of ourselves.

~FIRE teaches us to use the intense energy that we feel to purify ourselves by burning away what no longer serves us.  To heat our body & soul when we feel bereft and alone.

~We are given the opportunity in every moment, to allow the breeze to clear away the inner cobwebs and to take a deep breath of fresh AIR to let go and surrender our worries and concerns to the highest good.

We each have the capacity to become our own inner shaman if we just but STOP, quieten our minds to listen to Mother Earth, listen to her wisdom as she speaks it to us in her silent and most powerful of ways.  Mother Nature roots us in the present, to the ground of being.  Earth is a powerpoint much grander than any computer we have become accustomed to.  Not just at our finger tips, but right there, in plain sight we can see, receive, feel and contemplate the deeper stirrings that we often take for granted.

Simple yet profound is her Way, also known to the world as the Tao. Of Chinese origin, it signifies the way, the path, the holistic belief of living in accordance with the natural world, of Mother Earth. Rocks and mountains teach us to watch the spin of the world that surrounds us as we remain firm and still within. To not react to what passes by, not squawk at the dark clouds, the sudden rain or the scorching heat.  But remain present to what passes by, in direct dharma, (in Indian Hinduism) as the eternal and inherent nature of reality, and concurrent regard for right behavior, in the meditation of life itself.  Flowers and plants teach us to face the light of the Sun, to always look on the bright side of life. Observation is the key to learning and Mother Earth has a lot to teach us.

TREES are some of our greatest wisdom teachers and shaman elders of all time.  They show us how to stand tall with roots (feet) connected to the ground, our trunk (torso) upright in strength, respect and integrity of self and branches (head) and arms reaching to the light of the Sun, of God, of Great Spirit.  They teach us that much of life that we are unaware of, is going on underground, in the unseen world.  Correlating to our feeling and subconscious selves that often gets ‘swept under the carpet,’ that has been hidden from our own selves.  This is known in the shamanic healing world as the ‘Shadow,’ that needs to be brought into the light of our consciousness for healing and integration.  They are shamans themselves as the work of a shaman is to bring the unseen to the seen, the unconscious to conscious awareness for healing and integration, bridging the spirit and the material worlds. Trees are wisdom keepers affording us a non-judgmental space to meet the moment of self and feel the power of our human heart.

Many ancient cultures venerate trees as a totem of spiritual significance, such as Mesoamerica, that reveres the Ceiba tree as the sacred tree of life, that symbolizes for them the underworld, (underground where the roots lie), the middle world (the trunk of the tree, the Earth realm, the connecting bridge between the lower and upper worlds) and the branches (the sky, the upper world, the entrance to the heavens and spiritual world).

We can learn much from the indigenous peoples who not only respected the Earth for their sustenance and provision, but also for their wisdom and guidance.  They revered her as a sacred living being, a living Mother, part of their own selves, their greater selves.  Living in symbiotic harmony and following in abidance the law of the land, n accordance to the greater circle of all life in the garden that has never left us.

Invitation:

To step into the garden, with wondrous eyes as a child, you remember this feeling, it is within you still. Behold, (be and hold) of the magic and the wisdom that is available at all times. Go into nature and when entering the state park, the local park or your own backyard, wave your hands down from your head sweeping all the mental thoughts, entanglements and anxiety to the ground, to Mother Earth, allow her to take them in like dead leaves so she can mulch and recycle them into fertilizer, into new energy for your own growth. Get present, turn on your shamanic eyes and ears and listen with your present awareness.

Walk in wonder, walk in way of prayer.

Let your intuitive side open, see if you can observe what Mother Earth is showing you and listen to what she is saying to you, bringing what’s unseen to the naked eye.  Stand like a tree yourself, with your roots in the ground, your trunk tall and your branches high! Become an antenna of light bringing the light the heaven into your body and into the Earth.
